Steve Janke was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1996 to 1999 with assignments in Hawaii and Okinawa. Born on August 1, 1977, to Alyson and Terry Janke, he was raised in rural Westfield, Wisconsin, where he developed strong roots in family and community. A 1995 graduate of Westfield High School, he was actively involved in athletics, participating in football, basketball, and baseball.
Following his military service, Steve returned home to continue his family’s legacy as a dairy farmer. His passion for helping others extended into public service, where he contributed through roles on the Westfield Area School Board and the CESA 5 Board of Control, as well as in public affairs and legislative work.
In 2017, Steve joined the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, where he became a key figure in developing programs to support transitioning service members and their families. He played an instrumental role in launching Mission Wisconsin, a statewide initiative aimed at connecting military families with opportunities. He later expanded his efforts nationally through Semper Forward, helping veterans successfully transition into civilian life and careers.
Steve’s impact extended far beyond his home state. Through his leadership and dedication, he supported hundreds of military families and worked with organizations to improve veteran workforce development. His efforts earned him deep respect from colleagues, veterans, and community leaders alike.
Above all, Steve was a devoted father to his children, Ashton and Emma, who were the center of his life. He is also survived by his parents, siblings, extended family, and many lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.
